Share Universal Menswear Ltd (UML) a joint venture between Ananta Apparels Ltd and Time International Trading SRL Romania, a leading apparel manufacturer in Bangladesh and largest formalwear producer in the region, has taken a bold step in advancing industrial sustainability by commissioning an 814 kWp rooftop solar power system at its Adamjee EPZ facility making it one of the first companies within AEPZ to commence such installation work. The UML Solar Project was officially inaugurated on July 26, 2025, and the system has been fully operational since July 5, 2025. This pioneering initiative is supported by the Bangladesh Bank’s Technological Development Fund (TDF) through BRAC Bank and reflects UML’s long-term commitment to reducing electricity costs and enhancing its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. Designed to generate approximately 950 MWh of clean energy annually, the system is expected to reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 637 tons each year. The installation features 1,335 high-efficiency Longi 610Wp panels and seven 110 kW SMA inverters, covering a rooftop area of 60,000 sq. ft. MIR Trading, in collaboration with Boulder Engineering Ltd., was awarded the contract following a competitive evaluation. The solar solution reflects UML’s strategic drive toward energy efficiency and environmental leadership in the manufacturing sector. “Having already achieved LEED Gold Certification in August 2023, this project cements UML’s path toward LEED Platinum Certification, advancing our sustainability agenda while reinforcing our role as a responsible corporate citizen,” said Mr. Sharif Zahir, Managing Director of Universal Menswear Ltd. Mr. Christopher Raymond Long, representing joint venture partner Time International Trading SRL Romania, was also present at the inauguration, underscoring the shared vision for clean energy adoption and long-term value creation. As industries in Bangladesh increasingly embrace green solutions, Universal Menswear’s initiative sets a strong example for sustainable growth and innovation in the private sector. Next article #
