PHDCCI Conference Sets Roadmap for Technical Textiles

The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), hosted a high-impact “Conference on Technical Textiles” on 25th July 2025 at CICU Complex, Ludhiana. The event aimed to promote innovation, sustainability, and skill development within the technical textiles sector. Chief Guest Mr. Ajay Gupta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, inaugurated the conference and emphasized Ludhiana’s potential as a hub for technical textiles. Mr. Ashok Malhotra, Mission Director, NTTM, presented key developments including the sanctioning of 168 R&D projects, approval of 20 startups with grants totaling ₹10.34 crore, and 500 individuals trained through 16 skilling courses. Mr. Rahul Chaba from Invest Punjab highlighted the state’s investor-friendly ecosystem, while Mr. Sunil Kumar Puri elaborated on the versatile applications of flat-bed knitting machines for producing advanced textile structures integrated with smart functions. Mr. Debabrata Ghosh of Oerlikon showcased innovations in nonwovens and next-gen textile technologies across multiple industries. Further, Mr. Akhil Seth underscored India’s potential in Packtech, Meditech, and Geotech segments, advocating for Centres of Excellence in Ludhiana and stronger industry-academia collaboration. Mr. Rajiv Sajdeh called for the inclusion of natural fibres like wool in technical textiles, and proposed a “TechTex Green Compliant” certification to support circularity and sustainability. The conference featured key contributions from Shingora Textiles, MSME Ministry, Textile Commissioner’s Office, and BIS, along with academic experts like Dr. M. S. Parmar and Dr. Swapna Mishra. Topics included BIS standards, SIDBI schemes, sustainable practices, and future workforce development. Supported by The Knitwear Club Association, CICU, and media partners such as Texfash Media, Textile Insights, and Technical Textile Value Chain, the event attracted over 150 delegates, including large firms, MSMEs, R&D institutions, and academia. Moderated by Mr. Rakesh Kumar Sangrai, the event concluded with a strong commitment to reinforcing Ludhiana’s position in India’s technical textile ecosystem, aligning with the goals of NTTM.
