Maharashtra Agitation Hits Business, Says Dr. Kalantri
The ongoing agitation in Maharashtra since Friday has caused major disruptions in the movement of goods, transport, and people, particularly in South Mumbai and neighboring areas. This situation has led to a sharp decline in office attendance, considerable business losses, and widespread disruption, stated Dr. Vijay Kalantri, President of the All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and Chairman of MVIRDC World Trade Centre, Mumbai. “At a time when Maharashtra is working towards becoming a US$ 1 trillion economy by 2027 and attracting both domestic and international investments, such disturbances send a negative message and harm the image of a progressive Maharashtra,” Dr. Kalantri stressed. He further remarked that reservations should not be determined by religion, caste, or community but should be based solely on economic criteria. “Even after 78 years of independence, we continue to depend on the reservation system. It is time for the government to ensure that all schemes and opportunities are inclusive and benefit every section of society equally, regardless of caste or religion.” Dr. Kalantri urged the Government to take immediate action to restore normalcy and address the root causes of the unrest in a fair and balanced manner, enabling Maharashtra to stay on its path toward inclusive economic growth and development.
