Denmark, BIGD launched project- “Capacity Building of Factories in Sustainability and Climate Action

Share BIGD launched a new project, “Capacity Building of Factories in Sustainability and Climate Action,” funded by the Royal Danish Embassy in Bangladesh. The project will assess energy use in the country’s textile and garment factories and provide strategic recommendations to improve efficiency and encourage renewable energy adoption. The project will be conducted in a partnership between BIGD, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at BRAC University, the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) at BRAC University, and Green Tree Building Consultant. Speaking at the launch, Ali Asraf Khan, Sustainability and Value Chain Advisor, The Trade Council at the Royal Danish Embassy Dhaka, emphasized the importance of identifying gaps in implementing such initiatives across factories. Professor Munshi Sulaiman, Research Director at BIGD, added that the project aims to generate evidence-based policy recommendations to support a sustainable and competitive RMG sector aligned with Bangladesh’s climate goals. Other speakers included Dr Rohini Kamal, Head of the Environment and Climate Change Cluster at BIGD; Sheikh Hossain Muhammad Mustafiz, Director at BGMEA; Fakir Kamruzzaman, Vice-President at BKMEA; and Saadman Faisal, Programme Coordinator at BIGD.
