Share The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) paid heartfelt tribute to its former Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Team Group, the late Abdullah Hil Rakib, in a memorial discussion and special prayer session held in his honor. The event took place on Saturday at the Nurul Quader Auditorium in the BGMEA Complex, Uttara. Presided over by BGMEA President Mr. S. M. Mannan (Kochi), the program was attended by former presidents of BGMEA, current board office bearers and directors, general members, family members of the late Abdullah Hil Rakib, and well-wishers. President Mahmud Hasan Khan, along with former presidents Anisur Rahman Sinha, Kutubuddin Ahmed, Kazi Moniruzzaman, Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), Faruque Hassan, Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, and Rakib’s wife Afroza Shaheen, fondly recalled his legacy and contributions during the session. The welcome speech was delivered by BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haque Khan. Speakers at the memorial described Abdullah Hil Rakib as a pioneering entrepreneur whose contributions to the country’s apparel industry were both remarkable and transformative. They highlighted his key role in policy advocacy, sustainability, and envisioning a $100 billion export target for the industry. His efforts, they noted, have significantly shaped Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the global apparel market. In his speech, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan remarked, “Abdullah Hil Rakib was an extraordinary individual who revived numerous closed factories and transformed them into eco-friendly establishments. His vision and actions will continue to inspire future generations. Fulfilling his dreams, such as reaching the $50 billion export milestone, would be a fitting tribute to his legacy.” A special prayer (dua) session was held for the late Abdullah Hil Rakib’s departed soul. Prayers were also offered for the victims of the recent tragic plane crash near the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara, as well as for two recently deceased and devoted leaders of the garment industry—Sultan Ahmed and Colonel (Retd.) Anwarul Azim. #
