London – Oritain, a major global player in product origin verification for cotton, is broadening its scope.
The company is on the verge of launching a new technology that will be relevant to the home furnishings industry, according to Alyn Franklin, who joined the company as CEO in December. The details are under wraps for the moment but are expected to be announced later this year.
“Tariffs have acted as an accelerant” for supply chain authentication, he noted, particularly since the levies vary so much by country.
“The job is to make our solutions easily adaptable and affordable,” he added. “The benefit to the corporation is that validation is happening earlier in the supply chain.”
Normally, compliance programs work to broaden the amount of data they collection along the supply chain, he asserted. Oritain plans to remain narrow in scope, in part by integrating with traceability software.
Oritain uses forensic science to test products and raw materials, verifying their origin to authenticate responsible sourcing. The organization is also leveraging its forensic track and trace solutions to address smaller operations within the supply chain, Franklin added. “We can help them identify where their risks reside.”
The company’s methodology meets demands for transparency and claims frameworks to comply with legislation like the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA), EU Forced Labor Ban, EU CSDDD, and others.
