U.S. cotton sales surge: Upland cotton sales up 7%, pima cotton also shows growth – USDA report
In the latest USDA Weekly Export Sales Report, U.S. cotton exports have seen notable gains, with Upland cotton sales up by 7% for the week. Pima cotton also showed an upward trajectory, marking a positive shift in the market for both types of cotton.
For the week ending December 28, 2023, total net U.S. cotton sales reached 206,500 running bales (RB), a marked increase compared to the previous week. This jump in sales is attributed to steady demand from major international buyers, bolstering the optimism for U.S. cotton exports for the remainder of the 2023/24 marketing year.
Upland cotton, in particular, saw a 7% rise in its sales, amounting to 170,300 RB. Key buyers in Asia, including China and Vietnam, have shown consistent interest in U.S. cotton, while other markets have also contributed to the strong demand.
Pima cotton, known for its superior quality, also experienced a positive trend, with net sales reaching 10,400 RB. As global demand for high-quality cotton remains robust, Pima cotton exports are expected to remain solid in the coming weeks.
This surge in U.S. cotton exports comes at a critical time as cotton producers and stakeholders are looking for signs of recovery in the market. Despite challenges such as fluctuations in global commodity prices and weather-related uncertainties, the consistent performance of U.S. cotton exports provides a sense of stability for the industry.
The USDA’s report underscores the resilience of U.S. cotton in maintaining its global competitiveness and suggests that cotton remains a key export commodity for the country.
As the market continues to evolve, the outlook for U.S. cotton exports looks promising, with further growth anticipated in both Upland and Pima cotton sales.
