The integration of advanced manufacturing technologies, sustainability practices, focus on circularity and innovative fibers has become a necessity. Techtextil India 2025 plays a crucial role in driving this evolution by bringing together stakeholders across the value chain, fostering dialogue on policy and technology and accelerating industry-wide transformation. This year, the show takes a significant leap forward with its multi-functional approach, integrating new features under one roof — the Dornbirn Global Fiber Conference Asia, which will be held on 18th November 2025, the launch of Sporttech Pavilion, the feature of German Pavilion and a Techtextil India conference powered by Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA). Together, these additions will enable participants to explore advanced applications of technical textiles across various sectors, including sports, automotive, defence, healthcare, construction, and sustainability.

India’s textile industry is undergoing a transformative shift driven by government reforms and industry-led innovation. Acknowledging the sector’s pivotal role in the national economy, the Ministry of Textiles has recently introduced significant amendments to the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Textiles, with a focus on revitalising the man-made fiber (MMF) and technical textiles segments. The revision aims to enhance ease of doing business, attract new investments and generate employment, while aligning with the government’s broader vision of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

Commenting on the upcoming edition, Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director and Board Member, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, stated: “The Indian textile industry is witnessing a remarkable transformation driven by government support, technological innovation and global demand for sustainable materials. Techtextil India 2025 will not only showcase the latest in technical textiles and nonwovens but also serve as a knowledge-driven hub connecting policy with practice. Our new initiatives – the Dornbirn Global Fiber Conference Asia, Sporttech Pavilion, German Pavilion and ITTA Technical Textiles Seminar – align perfectly with the nation’s textile growth mission, enabling participants to explore next-generation materials, solutions and business collaborations. We are proud to support India’s vision of becoming a global textile powerhouse.”

The show will present credible developments in the fabrics for sports and activewear (Sporttech) category, leading to a dedicated Sporttech Pavilion organised in partnership with Concept N Strategies. A dedicated conference titled – ‘India’s activewear revolution scaling without compromise: Building a 360-degree ecosystem for premium, high-quality active wear that competes globally’ will spotlight high-performance fabrics and materials revolutionising sportswear and outdoor applications. The show will also house a conference on recycling, ‘Creating tomorrow’s circular supply chains: Technology, collaboration and capital for textiles and plastics.’

Besides these key features, the expo has seen an expansion into Mobiltech, Buildtech and Oekotech segments. Through these categories, the exhibition aims to connect manufacturers, technology providers, investors and policymakers under one unified platform to share insights, explore business opportunities and discuss the future of advanced textile materials. The event’s focus on innovation, sustainability and collaboration complements the national agenda of achieving self-reliance and global competitiveness in textiles.

The show will have the presence of key domestic industry leaders, including Aditya Birla Yarns, Khosla Profil, Park Nonwoven, Pidilite, Reliance, Welspun, Sanathan Textiles, Sarex Chemicals, and Suntech Geo. Meanwhile, the international exhibitors include ACM, Inc., Autefa Solution Germany GmbH, Bettarini & Serafini SRL, Brückner Textile Technologies GmbH & Co. KG, Georg Sahm GmbH & Co. KG, Innovatec Microfiber Technology GmbH & Co. KG, Procotex, Pulcra Chemicals GmbH, R&M International Sales Corporation, Reifenhäuser Enka Tecnica GmbH, Ring Maschinenbau GmbH, STC Spinnzwirn GmbH, Textechno Herbert Stein, VEIT Hong Kong Limited and Zoltek.

As high-value, sustainable and globally competitive textile production is receiving renewed focus, the synergy between government initiatives and industry platforms such as Techtextil India 2025 will continue to strengthen India’s leadership in the global textile landscape. The show has become synonymous with India’s textile ambition — weaving together innovation, collaboration and opportunity to create a more resilient, future-ready industry.

The expo has garnered support from key industry bodies, including the Manmade & Technical Textiles Export Promotion Council (MATEXIL), Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA), Department of Textiles (Government of Maharashtra), while the Dornbirn Global Fiber Conference has garnered support from the Government of Tamil Nadu as the Partner State.

Techtextil India is part of Messe Frankfurt’s Texpertise Network.

“On World Cotton Day, we recognize the fiber that continues to appeal most to consumers around the globe,” said William Kimbrell, president and CEO at Cotton Incorporated. “Comfort and quality remain top priorities for consumers, and cotton delivers on both, naturally. The latest data from the Global Lifestyle Monitor Survey confirms that cotton is the fiber of choice for consumers for everyday wear, performance, and sustainability.”

Key Findings from the Global Lifestyle Monitor™ Study:

Cotton is the Preferred Fiber Globally

3 in 4 (75 percent) consumers prefer clothing made of cotton, cotton blends, or denim, overwhelmingly ahead of man-made fibers like polyester, spandex, and rayon.

Cotton Tops in Comfort, Quality & Authenticity

Consumers rate cotton clothing as the most comfortable (67 percent), softest (66 percent), best quality (59 percent), most authentic (56 percent), and most sustainable (49 percent) compared to clothing made from polyester or rayon.

Natural Fibers Command a Premium

Over half (59 percent) of global consumers are willing to pay more for clothing made from natural fibers such as cotton, citing comfort (66 percent) and quality (63 percent) as key reasons.

Environmental Trust in Cotton

Most consumers consider cotton (83 percent) and other natural fibers to be safe for the environment, while fewer than half believe manmade fibers like rayon (48 percent), polyester (46 percent), and Tencel (41 percent) are environmentally safe.

Sustainability Matters, But Trust Is Key

75 percent of global consumers are interested in sustainable clothing, with 21 percent calling it essential and 54 percent saying it’s “nice to have.”

Tactile Advantage in Retail

Consumers say trying on clothing (71 percent) and feeling the fabric (56 percent) are the top reasons why they prefer shopping in-store, a clear advantage for cotton’s tactile appeal.

“This year’s Global Lifestyle Monitor findings show that cotton’s strengths — comfort, quality, and environmental trust — are exactly what consumers are seeking, no matter where they live,” said Liz Hershfield, executive director, COTTON USA. “As brands and retailers adapt to shifting consumer habits and tighter economic conditions, cotton’s durability and versatility make it a smart choice for building products that last, resonate globally, and meet sustainability goals.”

Application-specific variants for maximum flexibility

The various versions of the DBxK5 system enable precise adaptation to specific embroidery applications. For example, the DBxK5 KK variant was developed with a shortened shank for use in machines equipped with raised needle plates or integrated sequin devices. The reduced shank length prevents collisions with these components. When embroidering thick materials, it also ensures that the shank does not penetrate or damage the fabric.

The DBxK5 SS variant is primarily used in sequin embroidery. Featuring an even shorter shank, it prevents sequins or other delicate appliqués from being damaged by the shank’s penetration during stitching.

Developed for very fine sequins

A macro shot showing the fine detail of a ladies evening shawl, open weave with sequins attached, the material showing a hue of colours from the overall black.

When embroidering very small and delicate sequins, there is an increased risk of damaging them during the embroidery process. To address this challenge, the DBxK5 SAN™ 15 version was developed. It features an even shorter shank compared to the KK and SS versions, as well as a cylindrical blade design. This results in a maximized cylindrical working area on the needle—slim enough to apply even the smallest sequins reliably and without damage.

Even when stitching sequins onto thicker embroidery grounds, the particularly slim geometry of the SAN™ 15 needle ensures that the sequins remain intact throughout the process.

Robust and precise – perfect for resilient materials

For particularly demanding applications – such as embroidering caps, felt, or leather – Groz-Beckert offers the special application needle DBxK5 SAN™ 1. Its reinforced blade provides significantly enhanced needle stability, reducing deflection and effectively preventing needle breakage and skipped stitches. This is complemented by an optimized geometry in the area between the scarf and the eye, which improves loop formation, minimizes the risk of skipped stitches, and protects the hook.

An additional advantage of the SAN™ 1 needle is the GEBEDUR™ (titanium nitride) coating, which offers increased wear resistance – especially in the highly stressed eye and point areas. The needle’s profile is rounded out by an enlarged eye that not only facilitates easier threading but also enables the processing of thicker embroidery threads.

The new solution for 3D embroidery with thick foam materials

The needle deeply penetrates into the foam

3D embroidery presents a unique challenge: foam elements – commonly known as puffy materials – are used to create raised, three-dimensional effects. During the embroidery process, the needle must penetrate deeply into the foam, placing significant stress on the embroidery thread. With particularly thick foam materials, there is an increased risk of the thread becoming pinched between the needle and the foam – often resulting in thread breakage and skipped stitches.

This is where Groz-Beckert’s new DBxK5 LGR needle comes into play. Specifically engineered to meet the demands of 3D embroidery, it features an extended long groove that reaches into the shank area, providing enough space for the embroidery thread, even during deep needle penetration. The thread remains securely positioned within the groove and is protected throughout the entire process. The result: a significantly more reliable embroidery process, even on highly compressible materials, and clean, high-quality embroideries with a distinct three-dimensional effect.

Wide range of point styles and needle sizes

Needle system DBxK5 from Groz-Beckert is not only available in different versions for specific embroidery applications, but also offers a broad selection of point styles and a comprehensive size range – from Nm 60/8 to Nm 110/18. This allows for precise adaptation of the needle to both the material being embroidered and the intended application.

The R and RG point styles are particularly well-suited for woven fabrics and leather, with the RG point also being applicable for knitted fabrics. For fine knits such as T-shirts or polo shirts, the rounded FFG/SES point is ideal, while the FG/SUK point delivers clean results on coarser knitwear. The TR point, in turn, is the preferred choice for open fabric structures such as tulle.Supplementary solutions for special cases

As an alternative to system DBxK5, the standard lockstitch needle DBx1 can also be used in embroidery machines under certain conditions. This is particularly relevant when extremely fine needles below Nm 60/8 or specific point styles not available in the DBxK5 range are required. In such cases, the DBx1 system serves as a functional alternative.

Conversely, when the use of thicker needles starting from Nm 120/19 is necessary – as may be the case in technical embroidery applications – the 1738A needle system is a suitable option.

Quality makes the difference

With needle system DBxK5 in its different versions, Groz-Beckert offers a well-thought-out portfolio for both single and multihead embroidery machines. The wide range of point styles, needle sizes, and versions allows for precise adaptation to diverse materials, machine configurations, and embroidery applications. Whether in standard embroidery, sequin work, embroideries on robust materials, or complex 3D embroidery – Groz-Beckert is a reliable partner providing precise solutions that reduce downtime, minimize thread and needle breakage, and improve overall results.

The choice of the right needle is not a minor detail – it is a key factor for efficiency and quality in the embroidery process.

Verifiable benefits

CASCADE recirculates part of the process steam produced during drying in cylinder dryers, enabling genuine, efficient energy recycling within the machine. Specific data on the recycling volumes achievable in practice was gathered in tests carried out at Getzner Textil in Bludenz. The tests looked at a drying line with ten cylinders during one shift and the production of seven weaving beams.

Steam System

The last four cylinders of the systems had been operating with a mixture of recycled flash steam from the first six cylinders and live steam. The respective supply quantities of recycled steam were measured. The results prove CASCADE’s effectiveness. At full machine load, 51 kg/h of the total 1,295 kg/h of steam required was obtained directly through the inline recycling of the CASCADE system.

As plant utilization declined, the potential savings in fresh steam decreased, but even at low-capacity utilization, reduction effects were evident. These are also influenced by the recipe, i.e., the process conditions. The following applies: the greater the temperature difference between the first and second cylinder sections, the greater CASCADE’s efficiency.

CASCADE thus opens up potential that can always be exploited without restrictions on the recipe. However, the magnitude of this potential can be influenced – unlike, for example, the eco mode in a car, which reduces performance and acceleration once activated.

Significant savings potential

(Left to Right) Thomas Rossi, Karl Heinz Vaassen and Werner Egger

The lower live steam consumption enables cost savings and a reduced carbon footprint. At full machine and production utilization – three-shift operation, 5,000 hours/year, 83% efficiency – and a steam price of €40/t, a cost reduction of around €8,500/year can be achieved under the representative practical conditions at Getzner Textil. In addition, in this specific example, it was possible to reduce the company’s environmental impact by 59 tons of CO2e/year.

Given the common practice of feeding condensate that is usually too hot for use in the boiler house back into the operating network, thereby losing thermal energy, every contribution from CASCADE pays off. For all customers who operate the feed water tank in the boiler house without pressure, any excess energy above a condensate temperature of 100°C is lost when it is fed back into the company’s own media network. The white steam clouds rising from the boiler house are a visible sign of this. With CASCADE, operators can minimize this loss of power without additional investments in machine peripherals.

By

Share
The Good Fashion Fund, managed by FOUNT, made its second investment in India with Sri Kannapiran Mills Limited in 2023 for a USD 2.5 million US dollar, long-term loan supporting replacement and modernisation of key equipment in two cotton spinning mills (KG Naidu Mill, Balaji Mill) and a denim weaving unit (KG Fabriks). Following on-site monitoring and offline assessments in Q1 and Q2 ’25 by GFF and third-party advisors, the investment confirmed notable positive results documented in a deep dive case study, a first for the industry, highlighting the financial savings, resource efficiency gains and social improvements in the Tier 2 and Tier 3 units of Sri Kannapiran Mills.
Independent monitoring validates impact
In February this year, the Good Fashion Fund conducted an annual progress assessment of Coimbatore based Sri Kannapiran Mills, supported by expert advisors including Bureau Veritas, Fairwear Foundation, GlobalCAD and adelphi Consult. The evaluation aimed to establish the outcomes of the Good Fashion Fund loan in June 2023 to replace legacy equipment – some over 25 years old – and to automate manually intensive spinning operations. A follow-up technical assessment in June further validated the energy performance of the GFF-funded equipment in the Tier 2 (KG Fabriks) and Tier 3 factories (KG Naidu Mill, Balaji Mill) compared to the baseline year of 2023.
The verified findings confirmed that the investment comfortably surpassed the minimum 50% environmental savings target for financed key equipment – specifically Good Energy and Good Materials – supported by tangible financial savings (Good Economy). It has also delivered direct tangible improvements on environmental and social action items based on the initial due diligence by the fund_, resulting_ in a replicable blueprint or model for other Tier 2 and 3 factories operating legacy systems.
With the funding, SKML installed newer model rotor spinning machines, auto doffers, auto blender and high-speed winding machines – that operate more efficiently than the legacy equipment. For the
weaving unit, the company upgraded its singeing machine, purchased several second-hand air jet looms and a cone winding machine – improving overall capacity and efficiency. In the period since the investment, the company has also improved its energy mix to 58.1% solar (vs 32.6%), 20.7% wind (vs 18.1%), 10.8% natural gas (vs 25.6%) and the remainder from the grid (as of Mar ’25). “_Without the Good Fashion Fund, we may not have moved forward with these upgrades so confidently. As an SME navigating a turbulent global supply chain—marked by trade disruptions, rising input costs, and sustained margin pressures—long-term investments are difficult to justify without the right support. The flexible capital and technical guidance from GFF helped us take a leap we couldn’t have taken alone. We’re now seeing the benefits—not just in cost savings and operational improvements, but also in product quality, data systems, and progress on worker well-being. It has shown us what’s possible” said Srihari Balakrishnan, Managing Director of Sri Kannapiran Mills.
Key results from the monitoring of GFF financed equipment (2024)
_Environmental • Up to 59% reduction in energy consumption from key equipment – 886,439 Kwh saved annually • Up to 95% reduction in cotton waste generation – 4,756 Kgs annually saved • ~1272 tons of Co2 saved from GFF financed equipment. Safer working conditions due to automation of manual doffing process
Enhanced environmental and social governance through data monitoring systems • Improved grievance mechanisms and health & safety measures implemented Financial • USD 140,000 annual approx. grosssavingsfrom energy-efficient spinning and waste reduction • USD 115,000 annual approx. grosssavingsfrom improved weaving production efficiency • Monthly fabric output increased to 220,000 meters due to additional air jet looms
Rakesh Vazirani, Head of Decarbonization Bureau Veritas commented, “Bureau Veritas verified the GFF investment’s impact at three SKML units, confirming 886,469 kWh of annual energy savings and up to 95% yarn waste reduction in 2024. Our two-part assessment found SKML’s culture of structured data and cross-functional collaboration key to success. Upgrades like auto-doffers, Saurer rotor machines and Reshmi winders boosted energy and material efficiency while enabling stronger operational monitoring. The transformation was enabled by GFF’s hands-on approach, SKML’s leadership, and alignment with evolving frameworks like Higg FEM and EU CSRD. This verification by BV was led by Mr. Jagadish VP with support from Mr. Sudalaimuthu VS.”
Release of case study and industry relevance
With the support of advisors GlobalCAD and adelphi Consult, the GFF is proud to release a deep dive case study, along with this announcement, providing a closer view of the fund’s use of proceeds, environmental and financial outcomes, and social improvements enabled by the fund’s capital and technical assistance. As one of the first publicly documented examples of impact validation in Tier 2 and Tier 3 textile manufacturing, the case study offers valuable insights for investors, brands, and ecosystem stakeholders looking to accelerate supply chain transition.
These results reflect the effectiveness and additionality of impact investment in driving transformation within the deeper tiers of the textile supply chain beyond Tier 1 – particularly for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) that are the most resource intensive and yet, undercapitalized, underserved by technical assistance and not yet reached by brand-led initiatives.
The complete case study with further insights is available for download here.
The SKML case demonstrates how targeted financing and manufacturer leadership can work together to deliver credible, measurable progress—at a time when brands are under growing pressure to decarbonize and derisk their supply chains without excluding the well-being of the millions of workers embedded in them. It’s a practical example of how real alignment between sustainability commitments and factory-level action can be achieved.
Speaking on the impact and case study, Bob Assenberg, Co-Founder FOUNT and Fund Director Good Fashion Fund, “Sri Kannapiran Mills exemplifies the kind of front-running manufacturer the Good Fashion Fund is proud to support. Their focus on continuous improvement—not just through upgraded equipment, but through data-driven decision making and in-house innovation—shows that transformation doesn’t always require acquiring the newest or most advanced technology. It requires a mindset. By prioritising what’s available, affordable, and adaptable to their context, SKML has delivered measurable improvements and built a foundation for long-term progress. This case strengthens our conviction that catalytic finance must go deeper into the supply chain—and it directly informs the design of Good Fashion Fund 2.0, which will aim to create stronger alignment between brands and manufacturers’ sustainability strategies”
