Seminar on Understanding Intellectual Property for Textile & Fashion Innovation

Bangladesh has experienced remarkable economic growth over the past few decades, positioning itself on the brink of graduating to a middle-income status. As the nation stands at this juncture, it is crucial to focus on the future trajectory of its industries, particularly in the context of Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). The country’s garment industry, which has thrived on competitive pricing and quality standards, must now evolve. In the post LDC era, it is imperative that this sector shifts its focus from mere manufacturing to embracing a more value-added business model.

The importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cannot be overstated in this transformation. Patents, trademarks, and design registrations are vital tools for protecting the innovations of fashion designers and textile manufacturers in Bangladesh, ensuring their creative work remains competitive in the global market.

To address these issues, a seminar titled “Understanding Intellectual Property for Textile & Fashion Innovation” was organized, with sponsorship from TEAM Group. The event brought together a distinguished panel of experts, including Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) at BUFT and Managing Director of Giant Group; Mr. Abdullah Hil Rakib, BoT Member of BUFT and Managing Director of Team Group; and Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor of BUFT, among others. The seminar served as a platform to deepen understanding of IPR’s role in fostering innovation and securing the future of Bangladesh’s textile and fashion industries
