A solemn condolence meeting was organized to honour the memory of the late Mostafa Golam Quddus. A distinguished industrialist, visionary leader in the ready-made garment industry, former BGMEA president, and the founding chairman of Dragon Group, Rupali Life Insurance, and Sonali Life Insurance Co. Ltd., Mostafa Golam Quddus was also a dedicated social worker and a valiant freedom fighter.

The event, held at the BGMEA auditorium in Dhaka under the initiative of Sammilito Parishad on February 4, was presided over by Quazi Moniruzzaman, former BGMEA president and president of Sammilito Parishad. The event was attended by BGMEA Administrator Md. Anwar Hossain, former BGMEA presidents Redwan Ahmed, S.M. Fazlul Hoque, Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), Faruque Hassan, and Khandoker Rafiqul Islam.

Also present were Abul Kalam and Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu), panel leaders in the BGMEA Board of Directors election, along with the late Mostafa Golam Quddus’s son, Mostafa Q Sobhan (Rubel), and daughter, Tasnia Kamrun Anika. A large number of former BGMEA presidents and general members also participated in the ceremony. The discussion session was moderated by Abdullah Hil Rakib.

During the event, BGMEA members prayed for the departed soul of Mostafa Golam Quddus and paid tributes to his invaluable contributions to the garment industry of Bangladesh.

Speakers at the event remembered pioneering efforts of Mostafa Golam Quddus in transforming the apparel industry, particularly in the development and expansion of the sweater sector, which played a significant role in boosting the national economy and generating employment opportunities for millions.

They also recalled his leadership in addressing international labour concerns, particularly his proactive role in tackling the Harkin Bill on child labour and launching the “Earn and Learn” program that was praised globally.

As the visionary behind the establishment of the BGMEA building, Mostafa Golam Quddus was remembered not only as a leader in the industrial sector but also as a patriotic freedom fighter who dedicated his life to the advancement of Bangladesh.

In his remarks, BGMEA Administrator Md. Anwar Hossain extended his sincere gratitude to Sammilito Parishad for organizing the event and to the Forum leaders for their participation. Mostafa Golam Quddus’s pioneering contributions to the sweater industry would always be remembered with deep respect, he added.
