A fruitful meeting was held today between Ajay Kapoor, Regional Managing Director, South Asia, of Intertek, an international quality assurance providing company and Senior Vice President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Enamul Haque Khan.

The meeting held at the BGMEA Complex in the capital’s Uttara area highlighted the need to collectively address challenges in the apparel sector, promote a sustainable business environment and strengthen mutual cooperation.

BGMEA directors Nafis-ud-Dowla, Joarder Mohammad Hosne Komar Alam, Coordinator of Responsible Business Hub Sheikh Suchita Jahan Sneha were present at the meeting.

From Intertek’s side, attendees included Ashish Gupta, Regional Chief Financial Officer, South Asia; Country Managing Director Neyamul Hasan and Head of Sales, Business Development and CRM Aliza Sultana.

During the discussion, BGMEA Senior Vice President Enamul Haque Khan briefed Intertek representatives about the current state of the apparel industry and its future expectations. 

Special emphasis was placed on exploring more collaboration opportunities in areas such as Intertek’s Assurance, Testing, Inspection and Certification (ATIC) services, which could help strengthen supply chain resilience.

Expressing BGMEA’s keen interest in working with Intertek to make the garment industry more sustainable, Enamul suggested wider use of digital platforms, skills and capacity development through training programs for SME factories and better management practices. 

These initiatives will help make Bangladesh’s apparel industry more competitive and trustworthy in the global market.

The BGMEA leadership reiterated the Association’s strong commitment to ensuring social and environmental compliance in the garment sector and welcomed Intertek’s cooperation in this regard. 

Both sides expressed willingness to work together for the progress and sustainable development of the apparel industry. They agreed that joint initiatives on capacity building, knowledge transfer and collaborative efforts to make the supply chain more transparent and sustainable are of vital importance.

The BGMEA Senior Vice President acknowledged Intertek’s long-standing contribution to the industry and stressed the need to explore new avenues of collaboration in the future.

Ajay Kapoor remarked that Bangladesh plays a very significant role in the global apparel market.

He assured Intertek’s continued commitment to deepening its partnership with BGMEA. “Our aim is to support BGMEA members in improving business practices, compliance, and skills to strengthen their global competitiveness,” he said.

Both organizations also agreed to hold further detailed discussions soon to shape future collaboration.
