
Bangladesh’s unemployment rate in the first quarter (Q1, July-September) of this fiscal (FY25) increased a bit to 4.49 per cent from 4.07 per cent in the same quarter of the last fiscal, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The BBS quarterly labour force survey revealed that the number of people without work in Q1 FY25 was over 2.6 million compared to 2.4 million in the same period a year ago. That makes the rise in the number of unemployed in the country 170,000 in a year.
Over 56.5 million people are newly employed in the country's labour force. Of them, 2.6 million people were unemployed, accounting for 4.49 per cent, according to domestic media reports.
The number of people without work in Q1 FY25 was over 2.6 million compared to 2.4 million in the same period a year ago.
That makes the rise in the number of unemployed in the country 170,000 in a year.
In the same quarter of the last fiscal, the labour force was higher, at 58.66 million, and unemployment was also lower, at 2.4 million people.
