Bangladesh plans to transfer land ports to private sector, close a few

The interim government in Bangladesh is planning to hand over several land ports to the private sector and shut down those that are not generating any revenue, Brig. M Sakhawat Hossain, adviser to the ministry of shipping and textiles, recently said.

Four out of total 24 land ports have been already closed, while the process of shutting down four more unprofitable ones is under way, the adviser told reporters at the Hili land port in Dinajpur.

The government plans to improve the infrastructure of developing land ports, and steps will be taken gradually to address problems.
