AMHSSC’s Vision: Sustainability & Workforce Transformation

New Delhi, January 2025 – Through focused skill development programs, financial independence, and inclusive growth, the Apparel, Made-Ups, and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) remains committed to empowering women. As sustainability gains prominence in the industrial landscape, AMHSSC is fostering professional advancement opportunities for women and helping to achieve long-term environmental goals, resulting in a workforce that is both future-ready and skilled.

Advancing Skills and Sustainability: Bridging the Gap

AMHSSC is committed to closing the gender gap in the industry by empowering women with critical skills and encouraging environmentally responsible behavior. Through creative initiatives, women are taking on crucial positions that allow them to become economically independent and establish themselves as industry change agents. In addition to encouraging a more diverse workforce, many positions incorporate environmentally friendly methods. AMHSSC is developing a new generation of leaders who are prepared to reshape the industry’s worldwide influence by coordinating skill development with environmental responsibility.

Empowering Women for a Sustainable Future

Women will play a crucial role in determining the nature of employment in the future, according to Padma Shri Dr. A. Sakthivel, Chairman of the AMHSSC: “It is not only morally just but also strategically necessary to empower women to assume leadership positions in sectors that prioritize sustainability. By giving women the tools they need to succeed in in-demand, environmentally friendly clothing manufacturing positions, AMHSSC hopes to support both economic growth and environmental objectives.

The efforts of AMHSSC are already benefiting women from underprivileged areas of India. For example, the Council will teach women eco-friendly fabric-cutting and dyeing methods as part of its future “Green Skills for Sustainable Apparel” initiative. These methods not only lessen their negative effects on the environment, but they also produce qualified workers who can promote sustainability in the clothing sector.

Leadership in Sustainability

Mr. Ashish Srivastava, CEO of AMHSSC, outlined the organization’s forward-looking vision:

“At AMHSSC, we are committed to equipping women with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the evolving job market. By integrating sustainable practices and embracing cutting-edge technologies like AI and automation, we are creating a pathway for women to thrive in high-growth sectors. We believe that when women lead in sustainable, technology-driven industries, they drive meaningful change and inspire the next generation of leaders.”

The “Sustainable Apparel Design Program” is a shining example of this commitment. Women participating in this initiative master zero-waste techniques and upcycled material design, enabling them to secure leadership roles in sustainable design teams at India’s top fashion houses.

Building a Resilient Workforce

AMHSSC is tackling the dual challenges of closing the skills gap and advancing inclusivity by combining technology-driven and sustainability-focused activities. Participants in initiatives like Digital Futures for Women are equipped to succeed in positions like AI-driven quality control in the clothing industry and digital supply chain management. In addition to giving women financial freedom, these opportunities position them as contributors to international environmental goals. Ms. Priyaneet Kaur, Joint Director of “Programs like Digital Futures for Women are key to equipping women with digital expertise, financial literacy, and technological skills, helping them thrive in evolving job roles while contributing to sustainable industry practices.”

The incorporation of technology and sustainable practices will continue to reshape labor dynamics as sectors change. In order to ensure that women from all backgrounds are not only a part of the change, but are driving it, AMHSSC continues to be at the forefront of this shift.

In addition to educating women for the workforce of the future, AMHSSC is enabling them to create a more sustainable and inclusive future for future generations by combining sustainability, skill development, and cutting-edge technology.
